Students can check out a wide range of standard and original bridge designs. Our collection features over 100 real balsa wood bridges, each captured in seven photos from different angles. This way, students can see how every part of the bridge—front, top, sides, and bottom—was put together.
The bridge project will be built using balsa wood sticks that are 2.38 mm (or 3/32 inch) thick, with a maximum weight limit of 16 grams. Along with glue and a sharp cutting blade, about 30 sticks—each measuring 61 cm (or 2 ft) in length—will be needed. These rules and guidelines are common in many Science and Engineering Fair competitions across the country.
Students are guided step-by-step on how to plan and design their own bridges using graph paper. They’ll discover the advantages of creating a blueprint, whether on paper or on a computer, before moving on to build the actual bridge.
A great thing about this educational product is that it not only inspires students with ideas for bridge design but also covers the key principles for building a bridge that’s both strong and attractive. The tutorials feature over 200 pictures and graphics to clearly explain various bridge construction concepts, including tips on cutting and joining wooden sticks for maximum strength.
Once the student has designed a bridge on paper or using Paint on the computer, our product will walk them through the entire process, step-by-step, from start to finish, to assemble the complete bridge.
The Balsa Wood Bridges Tutorial walks you through the complete step-by-step process of planning and building the bridge featured in the final picture. After going through this educational guide, every student will have the skills, confidence, and drive to design and construct a top-notch balsa wood bridge that meets all the requirements.
